Outstanding Contribution Award
Sir Paul McCartney has achieved more in his 65 years than any other musical artist, ever. Don’t believe us, well here’s Macca by the numbers.
- 24 U.K number one singles and 29 U.S, number one singles makes Paul the musician with the most number one hits ever. Elvis only garnered a paltry 21 chart-toppers.
- He’s sold 100 million singles earning him five-dozen gold discs. Not impressed? Well the Guinness Book of Records was, inscribing him as the most successful musician in the history of popular music.
- There are nearly four thousand recorded versions of his 1965 hit ‘Yesterday’ making it the most covered song in the history of the world. More even than ‘Happy Birthday’.
- Nearly 200,000 people came to see him perform in Rio de Janeiro 18 years ago, the largest crowd ever to pay to see a musician.
- And finally, in 1983, when a new tiny planet was discovered in the solar system, with due deference the astronomers named it “McCartney”, a fitting tribute to his stellar career.
This year the BRITs have joined the likes of the Grammys and the Queen who awarded him a Lifetime Achievement Award and an MBE, respectively. Sir Paul will be conferred with a BRITs Outstanding Contribution Award, recognizing his incredible career and his outstanding charitable work. By the numbers and by the music, he’s certainly earned it.

Estoy buscando melodía
para tener como llamarte.
¿Quién fuera ruiseñor?
¿Quién fuera Lennon y McCartney,
Sindo Garay, Violeta, Chico Buarque?
¿Quién fuera tu trovador?
(Quién Fuera - Silvio Rodríguez)
