Escoger las doce mejores es una tarea muy difícil; porque entre tantas creaciones magníficas es muy difícil determinar siquiera las cinco con mayores méritos musicales. Igualmente es difícil elegir una docena de favoritas de Paul con Los Beatles.

Mis doce favoritas son:

Esta lista podría variar en cualquier momento, porque es difícil que uno mantenga la misma preferencia por una misma docena de canciones todo el tiempo. Siempre hay varias que en algún momento entrarán y otras que saldrán de cuando en cuando. Y repito: es mi relación de favoritas (es decir: las que más me gustan) y no necesariamente el resultado de un análisis comparativo de calidad entre las canciones de McCartney con Los Beatles. Esta tarea compleja se la dejo a los que tengan más tiempo que yo para hacer análisis cualitativos comparativos.

He omitido muchas de mis canciones favoritas de la era beatle de McCartney, entre ellas varias que considero imprescindibles o clásicas, pero si las incluía hubiera dejado de lado las más "cañeras", así que tuve que reservarlas para otra lista (las mejores acústicas, las mejores con piano, las mejores orquestadas, etc.) canciones como "Things We Said Tonight", "Every Little Thing", "Yesterday", "We Can Work It Out", "Fixing A Hole" o "Hey Jude", entre muchas otras (entre las que están de cajón "Why Don't We Do It In The Road" y "Wild Honey Pie", pero solo por su brevedad las he omitido aunque las considero geniales). Mi lista es cronológica (no por fecha de grabación sino de publicación), y no de "las mejores" (operación imposible) sino de las 12 favoritas entre mis favoritas.

Canciones como Let it be o Yesterday son de indudable valor, pero desde hace muchos años que no entran entre mis favoritas. Seguramente debido a lo trilladas que han sido, pero hace mucho que no las escucho, básicamente porque en las compilaciones que me hago para el mp3 o con el Winamp entran todas las anteriores, pero nunca éstas.
