Claro, sin contar que remite a aquella parte de I Am The Walrus "Sitting in an English Garden waiting for the sun..."

Excelente y adecuada acotación, PiBe.

Un tema solista de Ringo que siempre me causó mucha gracia (la música es buena pero la letra es, para los Beatlemaníacos, lo mejor) es esta composición suya titulada "Early 1970" (lado B del single "It Don't Come Easy"); donde describe con humor cómo era la situación del grupo -realmente separado pero formalmente todavía con un futuro incierto- y cómo se vinculaba con él cada uno de los otros tres. Así que todo el tema es en sí un "tributo" (?) a John, George y Paul; o más bien un comentario sobre ellos. Bueno, creo que entre broma y broma Harrison es el que queda mejor en la canción, seguido de Lennon.

Muy bien, PiBe... Esto hace valorar más a Ringo como quien mejor asume su pasado Beatle. Sigamos "jugando en pared" hasta que alguien más se anime.

Un tema con referencias obvias a Los Beatles es la versión de "Back Off, Boogaloo" que apareció en STOP AND SMELL THE ROSES (1981). Se refieren a ella como "Version Two" o "Version 1981".

Varios años antes, Harry Nilsson hizo una versión de "You Can`t Do That" donde mezclaba partes y líneas de otras canciones (se adelantó a la idea de LOVE). Esto le gustó mucho a Los Beatles, quienes se hicieron incluso admiradores de Harry... y quien terminaría siendo compañero musical y etílico de Starr.

Ringo empezó a hacer una versión más "funky" de su tema "Back Off, Boogaloo" y le propuso a Nilsson incorporar como jugando líneas de temas Beatle, tomando tanto la letra como la melodía. Así nació esta nueva versión.

Esta canción fue escrita por John para el álbum de Ringo "Ringo", del 73', pero aparte de la obvia referencia que representa que este sea el autor, hay otros juegos simpáticos a cargo de Lennon que Ringo no dudó en reproducir...

Estoy tratando de postear en este tema, tratando otra canción de Ringo con alusiones a Los Beatles, pero algo ocurre y rebota mi correo. Trataré de nuevo después.

Por ahora: no es porque el tema que PiBe puso se titule I'M THE GREATEST, pero son grandes en verdad (me refiero a John, que lo compuso; a Ringo, que lo interpretó; a George, que participó tocando la guitarra; y a Paul... que no estuvo).

Antes de contestar tu excelente remate, PiBe (tomando la idea del pingpong ), permíteme comentar que cuando Los Beatles se pelearon con Paul en la época de la disolución, corrían rumores de que los otros tres pensaban seguir juntos, "jalándose" como reemplazo a Klaus Voormann como bajista y con Billy Preston de tecladista. Nunca se confirmó ese rumor. Personalmente no creo que hayan pensado en serio en reemplazar a Macca; además, a pesar de lo buenos músicos que son Voormann y Preston, el primero no compone ni canta, hasta donde sé, y el estilo del segundo no está a la altura. Debe haber sido un rumor solamente, a lo sumo basado en algún comentario emocional dentro del pleito. Hasta se dijo que el nuevo grupo se llmaría The Ladders (Las Escaleras, vaya nombre).

Bueno, rumor o no, esa formación es la que precisamente grabó I'M THE GREATEST. Así que, para los que buscan siempre datos truculentos y teorías alucinantes, ahí tienen -por así decir- una grabación de la formación alguna vez mencionada en rumores como "The Ladders", .

Esta vez haré referencia a un breve tema en el que Ringo no canta sino más bien declama (?) sobre un fondo musical; advirtiendo sobre el uso de drogas. Apareció en el álbum ANTI HEROIN PROJECT: IT'S A LIVE-IN WORLD (editado en 1986). El autor del tema -o, al menos, de la idea- es Charley Foskett, aunque parece evidente que Ringo puso lo suyo en la letra del mensaje.

La referencia a "hole" ("agujero") en la letra puede hacernos pensar en "Fixing a Hole" o en la broma del "medio agujero" en la película YELLOW SUBMARINE; pero es simplemente una palabra común en inglés, que tiene especial relación -en este caso- con el uso de la heroína.

Además de lo que mencionó PiBe, en las frases que he resaltado en negrita Ringo repite lo que John y Paul solían decir al público en los conciertos de Los Beatles: "Pisen fuerte (o golpeen el piso) con el pie y griten", como en el tema "Twist and Shout". Esa frase se convirtió en un referente clásico de la banda en concierto.

Aunque la sola mención de Liverpool ya es suficiente para evocar a los Fab Four, era inevitable que en su nuevo álbum de estudio (LIVERPOOL 8) Ringo incluyese más referencias a su pasado Beatle.

Precisamente en el tema que abre y da título al álbum hay más de una alusión expresa. Por supuesto Starr menciona también referencias personales pre-Beatle como el tiempo que vivió en Madryn Street y después en Admiral Grove; o cuando integró la banda de Rory Storm (The Hurricanes), con la que solía tocar los veranos en Butlin's Camp ubicado en las afueras del puerto. Y fue con esta banda con la que inicialmente Ringo viajó a Hamburgo, ciudad que también menciona; aunque ahí tuvo ocasión de alternar con Lennon, Harrison y McCartney y posteriormente, ya siendo un Beatle, regresó con ellos a actuar en el "Star-Club" en 1962.

La frase inicial, por cierto, hace referencia a la actividad principal en Liverpool (ser un marino); pero que inevitablemente evoca de algún modo al primer verso del tema "Yellow Submarine".

No soy conocedora de la carrera de Ringo, así que estos post me sirven para aprender (ya me estoy bajando sus primeros albumes).
Una cosa que quería preguntar es si Ringo le hizo una canción tributo a John, más allá de todos estos pequeños grandes tributos que Ringo reparte en sus canciones. Así como están "Here today" de Paul y "All those years ago" de George, ¿ha grabado Ringo una canción explícitamente dirigida a John luego de su asesinato?

bueno creo q es obvio, no???
Ringo nunca tuvo la calidad musical q tuvieron lennon y mccartney para componer las canciones..., solo hizo la excepción con "octopus garden"... , asi q no creo q haya tenido mucha imaginacion para componer sus canciones

Sobre lo dicho por Andrea Asher, es claro que Ringo se vio en la posición que afrontan muchos artistas cuando sus bandas se separan: pasar a ser un acompañante de otros o lanzar su propia carrera solista. Starr decidió lo último (sin dejar de apoyar a varios colegas en discos o conciertos). Y si bien pudo limitarse a hacer sólo versiones de otros autores, se esmeró para componer (hasta hoy), por su cuenta o con apoyo de otros, varias canciones.

Ciertamente nunca tuvo el nivel de Lennon y McCartney; pero es injusto compararlo con ellos. Sinceramente, ¿cuántos podrían salir airosos de eso? Dentro del pop rock que caracteriza mayormente la obra de Starr, muy pocas canciones suyas sean tal vez recordadas con el paso de los años; pero habrá dejado alguna(s) y eso ya es suficiente. Además, lo mismo ocurrirá seguramente con temas de la mayoría de artistas; exceptuando sólo a los que realmente han hecho grandes creaciones de manera más o menos consistente y continua. Muchos temas de Starr son amenos, divertidos, buenos; y nada más. Pero tampoco necesita más. La verdad, para lo que se esperaba de él como autor (es decir: nada o muy poco) ha hecho más de la cuenta. Si no, fijémonos en los intentos de otros músicos (como el baterista Keith Moon) que no pasaron de ser una anécdota en su carrera.

Y en cuanto al tema de este tópico, es indudable que para bien o para mal Starr siempre tiene más de una referencia a Los Beatles (en la música, arreglos y/o letra) en sus discos. Tal vez esto parezca excesivo en algunas ocasiones; pero es grato que al menos uno de los Fab Four haya hecho reconocimientos expresos a su maravilloso pasado (respetando la alusión directa de George Harrison con su tema "When We Was Fab").

Ciertamente nunca tuvo el nivel de Lennon y McCartney; pero es injusto compararlo con ellos. Sinceramente, ¿cuántos podrían salir airosos de eso?

Cierto....el mismo Ringo lo ha admitido en distintas ocasiones.

Muchos temas de Starr son amenos, divertidos, buenos; y nada más. Pero tampoco necesita más. La verdad, para lo que se esperaba de él como autor (es decir: nada o muy poco) ha hecho más de la cuenta.

Bueno, Ringo no ha dejado de hacer esto desde hace años, y la letra de "Postcards from Paradise" es una muestra casi exagerada... sin contar que desde el inicio me parece una referencia a su "Postcards from the boys".
A alguien más le incomoda ligeramente esta obsesión?

Definitivamente Ringo era el cemento de los Beatles,la sonrisa que limaba asperezas y se atrevía con todos incluso con John,
es más especialmente con John,le hablaba como ninguno otro se hubiera atrevido,sólo George Martin en cuestiones de arreglos musicales y ni siquiera,cuando escuchó la demo de "I´m The Walrus" le dijo ¿qué quieres que haga con esto?
menos mal que estaba allí Geoff Emerick y con "For The Benefit Of Mr. Kite" se las hizo pasar canutas a ambos.


Cuando Lennon sacó su álbum con Yoko los dos desnudos en la portada le recriminó que lo que él hacía afectaba a todos los miembros del grupo,John le preguntó que le parecía y dijo:" aparte de confirmar que tienes p....no veo que aporte nada más".
