"Hard Times Are Over" is a song written and recorded by Yoko Ono for her fifth album solo album "A Story".
Recorded in 1974, during the "lost weekend" sessions in which John Lennon produced "Walls and Bridges", "A Story" is the most intimate album of Yoko. It deftly weaves haunting confessionals with radiant, elegant melodies.
Unfortunately, "A Story" went unreleased when John and Yoko reconciled in january 1975. It was unreleased until the 1992 box set "Onobox", which featured material from "A Story" on disc six. It was only properly released as an individual album in 1997, with the reissuing of Yoko's back catalogue by Rykodisc.
Many of the tracks on "A Story" made it onto subsequent albums in re-recorded form "Hard Times Are Over" was included on "Double Fantasy" with John Lennon in 1980.
"This is the album I made in '74 when John and I were separated. It was already in a finished state, though the mixes were not that great and it had always bothered me. I remixed them all for this disc (AIU editor's note: Onobox's A Story). Then John came back from L.A., we got back together again and I felt it was not important to release this album. Who wants to remember a Lost Weekend, anyway?" (Yoko Ono, in the Onobox booklet in 1992)

"Hard Times Are Over" [1974] :
It's been very hard
But it's getting easier now
Hard times are over, over for a while
The leaves are shining in the sun
And I'm smiling inside
You and I watching each other on a street corner
Hard times are over
Hard times are over
Hard times are over, over for awhile
It's been very rough
But it's getting easier now
Hard times are over, over for awhile
The streams are twinkling in the sun
And I'm smiling inside
You and I walking together 'round the street corner
Cars and buses and planes and people go by
But we don't care, we wanna know
Wanna know in each other's eyes
That hard times are over, over for some time (yeah)
Hard times are over
Hard times are over
Hard times are over, over for awhile
